On November 20th , at 10.00am, Lisbon time, we welcome Doctor Sara Carvalhal, who will be presenting “Mitotic proteins in neurodevelopmental disorders: beyond cell division”.The seminar will be held at Anfiteatro de Anatomia Normal, Faculty of Medicine, 3rd floor, Polo I, University of Coimbra.



Bio: Sara Carvalhal is a researcher at the Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-Ri), within the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Algarve. Since 2012, she has been dedicated to studying the cellular mechanisms underlying rare diseases. She completed her PhD at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom and later pursued postdoctoral research at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science in Portugal. After gaining experience in four countries, she founded her own research group in 2022, where she leads projects that integrate cell biology and neuroscience. The impact of her work has been recognised through distinctions such as the Maratona da Saúde Award for Young Researchers in Rare Diseases and the L'Oréal Portugal Medal of Honour for Women in Science.
